Latest news from September 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"901\" class=\"elementor elementor-901\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0c7ff30 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0c7ff30\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e66c149 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e66c149\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This year marked a year where our project kept on spreading the word on gentrification, touristification and housing\/labour precarity! <br \/>Here is a sneak peek at what our project has been up to, from September 2024, following the highlights of project\u2019s first steps, that can be found <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/index.php\/2024\/07\/07\/highlights-of-the-very-first-steps-of-inclusive-urban-societies-project\/\">here<\/a><\/u><\/span>!<\/p><p><i><\/i> The project\u2019s first stop was at the <b>14<\/b><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup><b> Annual IIPPE Conference<\/b>, that took place in Istanbul, <b>from September 4<\/b><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup><b> to September 7<\/b><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup>.<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-911 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"967\" height=\"537\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-1.png 967w, https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-1-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-1-768x426.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 967px) 100vw, 967px\" \/><\/p><p>Amongst interesting presentations and fruitful conversations, our research team presented some of the project\u2019s findings, regarding the analysis of the touristification, through the usage of an original composite index that combines variables related to the supply and demand of the touristic product, as well as the tourism expenditure. This index was applied to European regions (NUTS-2), starting from 2008 onwards.<\/p><p>Afterwards, on the <b>23rd of October<\/b>, members of our team were present at the <b>Annual Meeting of ArcGIS users of Greece and Cyprus<\/b> in Athens, hosted by Marathon Data Systems.<\/p><p>During this event, our research team presented the \u201c<span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/sdi-portal.aegean.gr\/portal\/apps\/experiencebuilder\/experience\/?id=b50bee405dc249319d672d8139fd07f8\">Inclusive Labour and Housing Observatory<\/a><\/u><\/span>\u201d, that uses dynamic maps and charts to visualize socio-economic data and indexes related to touristification and labour, at the neighborhoods of Athens and Thessaloniki. The observatory consists of The Short-Term Rental Accommodation Tab, The Composite Touristification Index Tab, and The Property Rental and Sales Prices Tab.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI Emoji, serif;\">Finally,<\/span> our research team participated at the \u201c<b>Socio-Economic Sustainability, Regional Development and Spatial Planning: European and International Dimensions &amp; Perspectives<\/b>\u201d event that took place at the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean, from the <b>25th to the 27th of October<\/b>.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-925\" src=\"https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-3-300x192.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"967\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-3-300x192.png 300w, https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-3-768x493.png 768w, https:\/\/urbaninclusion.geo.aegean.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/news2-3.png 867w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 967px) 100vw, 967px\" \/><\/p><p>During this event, our research team provided insights into the spatial and economic dynamics of tourism, discussing how neoliberal globalization and the 2008\/2009 crisis amplified tourism&#8217;s role in the EU economy. Using Composite Indicator Analysis, we mapped regional touristification, identifying three key zones and a distinct North\/South divide.
