Specifically, their collaborative work documented how gentrification in Athens has been closely following the country’s productive shifts, and how it has been actively facilitated by debt restructuring and financialisation since the onset of the 2008/2009 Global Crisis.
These findings sparked an interesting discussion regarding theories of gentrification and how cities can defend themselves against the process.
